LED strips

The quantity of reels currently in stock is not enough. Is it possible to buy some of them now and the rest when they will be restocked?
When it comes to install LED strips one close to the other or in the same room it is better to be sure that they have the same BIN number. It is possible to see a slight but unesthetic colour difference between LED strips belonging to the same colour temperature range (e.g. 4000-4250K) but having a different BIN number. LED strips belonging to the same lot of production are likely to have the same BIN number. See the description “LED bin” printed on the package to know the BIN number.
Alernatively it is possible to purchase 3step LED strips to get the same colour temperature even for different product batches.

What does 3step color temperature mean?
3step description refers to the system used to define the binning process of LED colors: the color can be divided in 7 elliptical regions and within the 3step (3step MacAdam) the colors are indistinguishable to the average human eye. That's why the use of 3step method allows to add or replace LED strips having the same color without distinguish any difference in terms of color.

5050 vs 2835 LED chips: which one should I choose?
2835 LED chip is absolutely the most innovative and high-performance chip currently available on the market. It is equipped with a bigger heat sink and for this reason is better than 5050 LED chip. This is way the great majority of our products feature this kind of chip.

Sometimes it is recommended to power LED strip from both sides. Should I connect a power supply (one for each side) having approximately half the power of the total power consumed by the LED strip?
No, you should not otherwise the LED strip could get burned. You should power the LED strip from both sides by using the same power supply. As a result, 4 wires will run from the power supply, 2 will be connected to one side and 2 to the other side of the LED strip.

What kind of product do you suggest to get a “dots free” installation?
If you want to get a “dots free” installation we recommend you to choose an aluminium profile with opal cover to hide LED chips. We can suggest you the reference PR-SL05-03-S2 that is higher than other aluminium profiles. In general it is better to install an LED strip having more LEDs par meter (from 120 to more than 120 led/m) to create an homogeneous light effect.

Is LED strip F52-30s-240DF2 suitable for aluminium profile PR-AN03-08-S2?
No, it is not because this kind of LED strip features a power of 19.2W/m. The aluminium profile PR-AN03-08-S2 could not correctly dissipate the heat in particular for long hours applications.

What is the difference between 12V and 24V? Which one should I choose?
The main difference between 12V and 24V is the LED strip cut-points: 12V LED strips can be cut every 3 LEDs while 24V LED strips can be cut every 6 LEDs. Moreover we suggest you to choose 24V LED strips for installations longer than 5 meters. If compared to 12V LEDs, 24V Leds are less likely to suffer any voltage drop.

What is better between an LED strip and an LED bar?
It depends on the kynd of application: an LED bar is very easy to install because the only thing to do is to connect it to the power supply. On the other hand an LED strip is a more flexible and versatile light source since it can be installed almost anywhere together with the aluminium profile you like most.

I would like to replace my neon ceiling lights by LED strips to illuminate an industrial building. Could you suggest me a way to get a good result both in terms of light and consumption?
You have two options: 1) use a 14,4W/m LED strip to keep the same amount of light and reduce the power consumption 2) get more light keeping more or less the same current power consumption using a 24W/m LED strip.

When I purchase a LED strip, is the power supply included?
No, LED strips are sold separately. You must purchase the right power supply.

Is Parylene protection visible to the naked eye?
Parylene is a transparent film coating that makes LED strips waterproof. LED strips with Parylene coating look like the same as IP20 strips.

How to read the new energy ranking?
The new ranking runs from the letter G to the letter A, namely from the least to the most efficient class. For more details click here.

I need to create light lines on a curved surface. Do you have strips for this type of application?
If you need to illuminate curved or irregular surfaces, we have the perfect solutions for you. For this type of application, we primarily offer two options:

• Zigzag LED strips: These strips are specifically designed to adapt to tight curves and angles without the need for cuts or interruptions, ensuring a clean and continuous installation.
• Neon flex: Ideal for wider curves and decorative installations, Neon flex creates continuous luminous lines and bends with great ease, offering a uniform visual effect.

Are there LED strips that can be cut every centimeter?
Yes, there are LED strips that can be cut every centimeter. You can find them in the "LED STRIP" section of our website. Once there, use the "CUT" filter – located on the left – to select the cutting step you prefer.

How many meters of a 48V strip can I power from one side only?
Our 48V LED strips are all current-controlled and allow for single-side power feeds up to 25/30m (depending on the type of installation). If you exceed these lengths, it is recommended to power the strip from both sides.

What are Constant Current (CC) LED strips, and what advantages do they offer?
Constant Current (CC) LED strips use IC chips to ensure uniform brightness and prevent dimming. They protect the LEDs from voltage spikes, drastically increasing their lifespan and stability. They allow for single-sided power supply up to 10m or 20m depending on the type of strip chosen, eliminating the 5m limit of standard strips and resolving voltage drops on the PCB. They are the professional choice for long installations that require uniform lighting and reliability.

Neon Flex

What is the difference between "top view" and "side view" Neon flex? What type of bending can I achieve?
The "top view" Neon flex emits a more direct light, as the light emission is directed upwards or forwards. Its flexibility allows for vertical bending only, so it can be curved up and down.
Unlike the "top view," the "side view" offers a less intense light, as the illumination is more indirect. Its bending is possible only horizontally, allowing it to be curved from side to side.

Aluminium profiles

How does it work the 60° lens diffuser for aluminium profiles?
If compared to other diffusers, this kind of lens diffuser narrows the LED tape’s light beam from 120° to 60°.

I know that LED strips must be installed into aluminium profiles. What is their function?
Aluminium profiles are necessary to dissipate heat produced by LED strips and help to prevent any damage. Our aluminium profiles come in many shapes and sizes (for ceiling, corner, round, waterproof) according to the kind of LED strips to be installed inside them. You can also choose a diffuser (opal, transparent or semiopal) in order both to make LED tape less visible and to protect it.

I would like to install a 2 meters long LED strip to illuminate the kitchen’s undercabinet. What is the most suitable aluminium profile for this kind of application?
We suggest to install a corner aluminium profiles, in particular one of the following models: PR-AN03-08-S2, PR-AN02-08-S2 and PR-AN01-03-S2.
You can install a 9.6W/m LED strip if you want to get a sufficient amount of light (reference F52-30s-120DF2). Should you need more light it is better to install a 14.4W/m LED strip such as reference F52-30s-060822 or F52-30s-1208F2/14.4.

I would like to know whether you sell aluminium profiles cut to custom lengths.
Our aluminium profiles are generally availble in 2 meters lengths (some of them are available in 3 meters lenghts too). We cut them to custom lenghts only in case of big quantities.

What is the difference between opal and frosted diffuser?
The difference between opal and frosted diffuser mainly consists in the external appearance of the cover: the opal diffuser features a smooth and shiny surface, while the frosted diffuser features a rough surface. For further information click here.

SkyDance Controllers

Is it possible to match more Skydance controllers with the remote control at the same time?
It is possible to pair multiple receivers to the same remote control, but synchronization must be done individually: each receiver must be put into 'match' mode and paired with the remote one at a time. It is not possible to activate multiple 'match' buttons simultaneously to synchronize them all together.

What is the difference between DALI and DALI 2 devices?
DALI 2 is the most up-to-date version, offering more reliable compatibility, more extensive functions, and more consistent behavior than the previous DALI version.

Dimmers

Should I wire a dimmer after or before the power supply?
The dimmer must be connected after the powers upply and before the LED strip as follows: power supply-dimmer-LED strip.

Is it possible to install a dimmer with remote to control light?
Our LED strips can be controlled by using a dimmer. We can offer a great variety of dimmers according to LED strip’s power and colour with many different functions (Should you want to display our complete range of dimmers, visit the following page http://www.ledpoint.it/en/controllers)

Do I need two dimmers to control two LED strips?
If you want to control them separately you need two dimmers, otherwise one dimmer is enough to control both.

I would like to illuminate a 4.50 meters long undercabinet and turn it on with a simple touch. What do you suggest?
We can suggest you to use the touch dimmer 3A 12/24V (reference SK-E1-C(M)) designed to be installed inside an aluminium profile such as reference PR-AN03-08-S2 with round opal diffuser. The touch dimmer works like this: you can turn the light on and off with a simple touch or adjust the light intensity from 0 to 100 by pressing the dimmer.

Is it possible to connect more power supplies to the same controller?
No, it is not. On the contrary, it is possible to connect more controllers to the same power supply.

Power supplies

What is the suitable power supply for an LED strip featuring 100W 24V?
We can offer many different models of 100W 24V power supplies. Reference PW-YSL100-24 or MW-PLC100-24 can be installed in flammable surfaces or junction boxes. Reference MW-LRS100-24 is suitable for false ceiling while reference MW-LPV100-24 is recommended for moist locations.

Is a 240W power supply enough for 10 meters of 24W/m LED strip?
A 240W power supply is suitable for this kind of installation. The power supply is not lead to its maximum capacity because the figure 24W/m refers to LED strip’s nominal power. The real power is around 22W/m.

What is phase cutting? Do you have phase-cut power supplies in your range? Is it specified in the product description?
A phase-cut power supply is specifically designed to work in synergy with a TRIAC dimmer, thus allowing the regulation of light intensity. The dimmer, positioned upstream of the power supply, modulates the current flow in a controlled manner. This controlled interruption of the current not only allows you to adjust the brightness of the LED strip, but also to deactivate the power supply when the strip is turned off.
The use of this type of power supply is recommended when you want to associate a TRIAC dimmer and, above all, when you want to ensure that the power supply turns off simultaneously with the strip. This helps to preserve the lifespan and efficiency of the power supply over time.
You can find compatible TRIAC technology power supply and dimmer models in their respective catalog sections by using the filter: "Dimmable > Triac."

Does the power supply consume current even if the LED strip is off? If so, how much?
Yes, if the power supply remains plugged into the 230V outlet, it consumes a minimal amount of standby current. For our models, this consumption is very low, usually less than 1W. It only drops to zero by disconnecting the power supply from the electrical grid, perhaps using a switch.

Is the button used for a 230V "Push Dimmer" power supply the same as for a 24V "Push Dimmer" controller?
Yes, the type of button is the same. However, be careful: the button must always be approved for the voltage it interrupts.

• A button certified for 230V can be used for 24V.
• A button certified only for low voltage (e.g., 24V) MUST NEVER be used for 230V (safety risk!).

Is the potentiometer on Mean Well boxed power supplies for dimming or for voltage regulation?
That potentiometer is for the fine adjustment of the DC output voltage. It allows for small corrections (e.g., ±10%) on the nominal voltage to compensate for voltage drops or for precise calibrations. It is not designed for active dimming of the LED strip.
However, a slight permanent reduction of the voltage to achieve a lower brightness via this potentiometer generally does not create problems for the LED strip.

Accessories

Which connectors should I use for LED strip D52-300-A0321?
You can use the connector with 14cm long cable for monochromatic, 8mm large, 3528 LED strip reduced version (reference C3M-CST-W14-s1).

How can I connect LED strips with a different lengths?
You have two options: 1) you can sold them 2) or connect them by using connectors.
